NEUROTOXIN

Wrinkles and fine lines are a universal signs of aging. Neurotoxins, like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, are injected into specific areas to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines to form. The results from a neurotoxin injection generally last 3 to 5 months.

before your appointment

In an ideal situation it is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before treatment that can make all the difference between a fair result and a great result by reducing possible side effects. We realize this is not always possible; however, minimizing these risks is always desirable.

  • Consider avoiding alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood which will increase the risk of bruising).

  • Discontinue Retin-A at least 2 days before treatment.

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible, for a period of two (2) weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wart, Omega 3/Fish Oils, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDS can all cause thinning of the blood and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections.

  • Schedule Neurotoxin appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event, such as a wedding or vacation, to allow any bruising or swelling to subside. It also takes up to 2 weeks to see the full result of your treatment.

  • If you have a history of cold sores (herpes virus) a pretreatment dose of Valtrex may be required to prevent breakout.

  • If you have a rash, cold sore, or blemish in the area to be treated, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance so we can reschedule your visit.

  • Make sure to eat something before your appointment. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, congratulations! Unfortunately, we cannot treat you until you are finished breastfeeding.

after your appointment

After you have received a neuromodulator treatment most patients start seeing benefits as early as 3 days and up to 14 days after treatment. The results last between 2-4 months depending on the area treated and the amount of product used.

Please follow the instructions below after your neuromodulator treatment.

  • Do not massage or manipulate injected areas for 24 hours after injections. Washing your face gently and applying make-up is fine. Avoid using a Clarisonic facial cleanser, having a facial, placing your face in a massage cradle or lying face down in a chiropractor’s chair for 24 hours following the injection. If you are uncertain about the time frame between these activities and your treatment, ask your provider.

  • Do not rest your head or lie down for 4 hours following treatment. This will ensure the product will not spread into the orbit of your eye, which could cause a drooping eyelid in rare instances.

  • If you have had injections in the upper face, do not wear a headband or hat if the band extends across your forehead.

  • If bruising appears, apply a cool compress to the area.

  • The most common side effect of Botulinum Toxin A injections is a headache, which may be treated with Tylenol. If you are a chronic headache sufferer and have a prescription headache medication, you may take it as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Do not perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for the remainder of the day after treatment. This will prevent the toxin injection from migrating outside of the injected area.

  • A supplemental “refinement” treatment may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results. If the desired result is not seen 2 weeks after your treatment, you may require additional product. Fees are based on product used, therefore you will be charged for products used during any refinement or subsequent appointments. If this is your first treatment, we recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment 2 weeks after your injection.
